When a child cannot safely remain in their home, relative or “like-kin” care is the best next option. The Annie E. Casey Foundation conservatively estimates that over 2.7 million U.S. children are currently in relative care. And the numbers have been growing each year. This includes thousands of children here in Wisconsin. Join the Coalition in recognizing National Kinship Care Month and the amazing individuals and families who step up to help children maintain vital connections to their family, community, and culture.

Although caregivers willingly and lovingly care for their relative children, many face challenges in identifying much-needed support. This is especially true for those who find themselves parenting suddenly and unexpectedly.
Help is available. If you are a kinship parent wondering where to start, or you’re looking to support a kinship parent you know, please contact a Resource Specialist at the Coalition for more information.
